Originating in Austria (1000 BC) their culture spread to cover much of Western Europe and even broke into the Middle East. The ancient Greeks envied their wealth and the Romans feared them. These people were highly skilled warriors, were master blacksmiths, and their art work was widely renowned and admired by the ancient world. Taliban destroyed ancient Buddha statues

large-Bamiyan-BuddhaTwo ancient Buddha statues were destroyed in March 2001 by the Taliban, on orders from leader Mullah Mohammed Omar, after the Taliban government declared that they were idols. International opinion strongly condemned the destruction of the Buddhas, which was viewed as an example of the intolerance of the Taliban.
